Bengaluru Metro Purple line trains will slow down to 40 kmph between Benniganahalli, Baiyappanahalli

Metro trains on the Purple Line will temporarily run at reduced speed between Benniganahalli and Baiyappanahalli stations as Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) carries out scheduled maintenance of the Open Web Girder (OWG) on the section.

According to the report, a specialized team carries out regular inspections of the beam and necessary maintenance work under technical supervision. As an additional safety measure, the speed of trains when crossing the girder will be limited to a maximum speed of 40 km/h against the normal speed limit of 65 km/h.

BMRCL said temporary speed restriction is a standard railway safety practice for maintenance and technical monitoring. However, Metro services on the Purple Line will continue to operate as normal, with only a marginal impact on overall journey times, the company said.

The maintenance is expected to be completed by the second week of October 2026. Once completed, the speed limit will be reviewed based on the outcome of the works and an engineering assessment, the report said.

BMRCL said it follows a preventive maintenance approach to ensure continued safety and reliability of metro operations.
