President Droupadi Murmu shared a heartfelt post on the occasion of Rakhsha Bandhan festival. She emphasized its importance as a festival symbolizing protection, warmth and mutual responsibility between families and communities and urged all to strengthen bonds and move towards a developed India. This greeting follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “heartfelt wishes”.
The caption of the social media post on X reads, “On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, I send my warmest greetings to all Indians living in India and abroad.”
In her Raksha Bandhan message, Draupadi Murmu said:
“On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, I send my warmest greetings to all Indians living in India and abroad.
The festival of Raksha Bandhan has been an integral part of our culture and tradition since ancient times. The rakhi thread, tied around the wrist with faith, was considered a sacred bond of protection, known as ‘Raksha Bandhan’. In many shlokas and mantras we find the words “Rakshe, Ma Chala, Ma Chala”. These words express a plea: “May this bond of protection last forever.”
Raksha Bandhan has become popular as a social festival in which sisters tie Rakhi on the wrists of brothers and their siblings. It symbolizes feelings of warmth, respect and mutual responsibility not only between brothers and sisters, but also between siblings, families, friends and society. This festival reminds us that every relationship stands on the pillars of trust, sensitivity and mutual cooperation.
On this auspicious occasion, let us pledge to strengthen the bonds between our families and our communities. Let us step forward with this spirit towards Viksit Bharat.”
PM Modi extends ‘heartfelt wishes’
Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the people of the nation on Friday morning as he wished that the bond of love, affection and mutual trust symbolized by the festival remain unbreakable forever.
In a post on X PM Modi wrote: “Heartfelt wishes on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. May this sacred festival bring happiness, prosperity and success in all your lives. May the bond of love, affection and mutual trust remain unbreakable forever – that’s my heartfelt wish.”
The auspicious festival of Raksha Bandhan, which celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters, takes place on the full moon of the Hindu month of Shravana. This year it is celebrated on Friday, August 28. On this day, sisters tie a rakhi around their brothers’ right wrists, symbolizing a bond of protection, harmony, mutual respect, a sense of responsibility towards each other and celebrating the enduring love between siblings.
Meanwhile, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh highlighted the cultural heritage and values of the festival and said, “Greetings to the sacred festival of Raksha Bandhan. This festival, embodying unbreakable affection, mutual trust and deep bond between brother and sister, beautifully reflects our rich cultural heritage and values.”
