Kerala Dalit activist Sunny Kapikad registers for ‘derogatory’ remarks on Sabarimala deities, says Ramesh Chennithala
Kerala Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said on Friday (August 28, 2026) that a case has been registered against Dalit activist Sunny M. Kapikad for his alleged derogatory remarks against Lord Sabarimala Ayyappa and Malikappurathamma.
Asked why no action has been taken against Mr. Kapikad so far, Mr. Chennithala told reporters, “A case has already been registered.”
During a recent event at an educational institution, Mr. Kapikad allegedly used sexually derogatory language while referring to Lord Ayyappa and Malikappurathamma.
Complaints made to the police
BJP leaders, voluntary organizations associated with Sabarimala and activist Rahul Easwar on Thursday filed complaints with the police to register a case against Kapikad.
BJP leaders also urged the chief minister to investigate the entire video of the alleged remarks and their context and initiate legal action.
