Suryakumar Yadav hopes for India’s comeback: He is dedicated to all the hard work

Former India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav is hopeful of a return to the national team and says he continues to work hard and believes things will eventually fall into place.

Suryakumar, who led India to their third T20 World Cup title earlier this year, has been dropped from the squad for the upcoming tour of Ireland and England. His recent form with the bat was one factor in the decision, while the selectors also look ahead to another two-year cycle.

The 35-year-old has struggled to find consistency and has also had a difficult IPL campaign, adding to questions about his status in India’s T20I side.

Asked about his comeback plans at an event for the Pro Govinda League, Suryakumar said he is doing everything to get back into contention.

“Look, I am putting in all the hard work and doing my best. If things go well, then everything will fall into place,” said Suryakumar.

Suryakumar remains an important player for Mumbai Indians and has been a regular in India’s T20I squad in recent years. After Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the format, he took over as the T20I captain and led India to the World Cup title.

However, he was later replaced as captain by Shreyas Iyer and left out of the T20I squad altogether.

The former world number one T20I batsman has not been able to reproduce his best form consistently in recent times. His omission comes after a period where his performances with the bat have not lived up to the standards he has set for himself.

India’s results under Iyer have also not gone their way. They were beaten 2-0 by Ireland before losing the five-match T20I series against England 4-0. The first game of this series was ended without a result due to rain.

Suryakumar also had an entertaining exchange with Sri Lankan great Sanath Jayasuriya during the event in Colombo. A video shared on social media showed Suryakumar greeting Jayasuriya before he joked about his fitness and asked if he was preparing for an international comeback.

“Are you getting better, trying to come back? It looks 100%,” said Suryakumar. Jayasuriya smiled at the comment, with the exchange garnering a lot of attention on social media.
