Telangana man on Kailash–Manasarovar Yatra safe; officials are tracking details of 22 others

Information about six people from Telangana was received through helpline numbers set up by the state government after the devastating flash floods on the Nepal-Tibet border. Besides, the officials also verified the information of 17 NRIs hailing from Telangana.

A person from Rangareddy district who was traveling on the Kailash–Manasarovar Yatra has now been confirmed safe and has been in touch with his family, according to a press release on Thursday.

Officials said they were continuing to follow up on the details of the remaining 22 people in coordination with the authorities concerned. The state government is coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and the Nepali authorities to trace their whereabouts.

According to the press release, several of the affected persons were traveling in the Nepal-Tibetan region, including those proceeding towards or returning from the Manasarovar Jatra. Their last known locations include the areas around Rasuwa, Rasuwagadhi and Gyirong on the Nepal-Tibetan border.

A special helpline and coordination center has been set up at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi. At the secretariat of Dr. BR Ambedkar Telangana at Hyderabad under NRI Division of General Administration Department has also set up a control room.

The government on Wednesday evening announced the helpline numbers set up at the Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi to provide assistance to the people of Telangana in Nepal. The numbers were 9871999044, 9949351270 and 9618597969.

In total, about 100 calls were received from family members and others seeking information and assistance. For better coordination, the officials asked for details of the charges, including name, passport number, mobile phone number, current location or last known location in Nepal, details of travel operators and family members.

Resident Commissioner Telangana Bhavan is reviewing the coordination and follow-up done by the officials concerned.
