Portuguese Joanna Child, at the age of 64, created history by becoming the second oldest cricket debutant T20i during the recent series of three matches against Norway, set up for Gibraltar Sally Barton, who debuted at the age of 66 and 334 days. The child broke the previous record holders Andrew Brownlee from the Falkland Islands and Cayman’s Mallly Moore.
The performance of the child in the series included scoring two runs in the first T20i match without not getting to the bat in the following games. Her only bowling opportunity came in the second match, where she bowed four supplies and admitted 11 runs without taking any goals.
The captain of Portugal Sarah Foo-Ryland, at the age of 44, appreciated the child and called it “inspiration for many crickets in the country”.
The Portuguese team represented a unique age diversity, with three teenage players-toe-year-old Ishreet Cheema and 16-year-old Mariam Wase and Afsheen Ahmed-playing with the child.
The series between Portugal and Norway proved to be competitive. Portugal required victory in the opening game and successfully defended a total of 109 runs to win 16 runs.
Norway was reflected in the second match and successfully chased the target of 137 runs with the remaining eight balls and five goals in hand.
The decisive match went to Portugal, who successfully persecuted the Norwegian goal of 125 runs with nine goals to save and ensured the victory of the series.
Although the child, although no other recorded performance, has shown a remarkable spirit by participating in her age at her age.
