Coal mining has been hit by heavy rains that have lashed the state’s coal belt
Heavy rains that lashed the coal belt in Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts disrupted coal mining in five surface projects (OCPs) of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) for the second consecutive day on Thursday.
Coal mining and overburden removal were affected at OCPs in Mandamarri, Bellampalli and Srirampur areas, resulting in a loss of production of around 40,000 tonnes in the last two days, SCCL sources said.
Shovels, dump trucks and other heavy machinery remained idle in their yards due to the slushy conditions caused by incessant rains.
SCCL officials have deployed heavy duty pumps to pump out stagnant rainwater and facilitate the resumption of mining operations once the rains recede.
Despite the disruption to mining operations at OCP, arrangements have been made to ensure uninterrupted supply of coal from coal yards to state-run power plants, including SCCL’s thermal power plant at Jaipur in Mancherial district, sources said.
