Legal education to be modernized: Kerala Chief Minister

Legal education will be modernized and Kerala will turn into a hub of higher education, said Chief Minister VD Satheesan.

He was speaking at a function organized to hand over appointment orders to 35 assistant professors in government law colleges here on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister said that new and novel courses would be launched keeping in view the changing requirements of the labor sector. Apart from prioritizing courses that could provide good employment opportunities to students, steps have been taken to strengthen ties between educational institutions and the industrial sector, he said.

To take advantage of the expanding opportunities offered by plans for a unified port city, new areas such as maritime law should be part of legal education, he said.

The Chief Minister reminded the teachers that they have a huge responsibility and urged the new appointees to become role models for the students and the society.

Higher Education Minister Roji M. John presided over the function. Principal Secretary for Higher Education B. Ashok was present.
