In the absence of the chairman since January, the Malabar Devaswom (MDB) Council seeks to perform several activities. Former chairman, Mr. Murali, released his position on January 16. Since then, the Council has not encountered any meetings and is therefore unable to make a major decision.
“The festival in the Kottiyoor temple in Kannura begins at the end of May. It is the main event and several arrangements must be made. Without the chairman, MDB will not be able to coordinate with the District Administration or the Police,” soon the chairman will become the need for the new chairman.
In addition, repair work worth around 10 lacquers in several temples before the monsoon starts. Another main waiting decision of the Board of Directors includes recently appointed employees. “Unlike other Retaswom Council, appointment in MDB is not carried out through the recruitment board. The appointment of new employees must be approved by the Council to be permanent,” Sreenivasan said.
The Board of Directors must meet for different purposes, including the completion of the list of offers in different temples and coordination with different departments. It has a revised wage structure for temples on the basis of their annual income. The Government provides the Fund for Administration through the Board of Directors to financially weak temples to pay employees’ salaries. However, such advantages cannot be used if the Council is convened.
There are about 1600 temples and more than 6,000 employees in the districts of Kozhikode, Karagod, Kannur, Malappuram, Palakkad and Thrissur. “If the new chairman is not immediately appointed, the Board of Directors will fall into the state of the anarchy,” Sreenivasan said.
