GRP, RPF seize 16.92 kg marijuana at Hyderabad railway station, one detained

HYDERABAD

Government Railway Police (GRP), Hyderabad and Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested a 20-year-old interstate drug courier at Hyderabad railway station on Tuesday and seized 16.92 kg of marijuana with an estimated value of ₹ 8.46 crore.

The accused, identified as Akash Singh, a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district, was nabbed during a joint check drive near the entrance of Platform No. 4. Another suspect who was accompanying him managed to escape.

During interrogation, Akash allegedly told the police that he had agreed to transport marijuana from Visakhapatnam to New Delhi for ₹15,000 per trip at the behest of a man identified as Jafar. He reportedly traveled to Visakhapatnam where two bags of contraband were handed over to him before boarding the Godavari Express to New Delhi.

Police said Akash and another accused, identified as Manish, reached the Hyderabad railway station on Tuesday morning where they were suspected during a check drive. While Manish fled, Akash was apprehended with two bags containing 16.92 kg of marijuana.

The police seized 14 packages of marijuana hidden in two bags along with a mobile phone. The case was registered according to § 8 letter c) as amended by § 20 letter b) point ii) point B of the Act on narcotic and psychotropic substances.

Police have identified three other accused, Jafar, Miya and Manish, as absconders. Further investigation is underway.
