Congress focuses on voter registration, social security outreach and MLC polls at TPCC coordination meeting

The Congress has decided to intensify voter registration efforts in Telangana, introduce state government welfare programs to every household and adopt a transparent candidate selection process for the upcoming MLC elections for graduates, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said after the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Coordination Committee meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The meeting, held at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters, Indira Bhavan, was chaired by Telangana AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan and attended by Chief Minister A. Addressing the media after the meeting, Mr Bhatti said the right to vote is fundamental to India’s democracy and constitutional framework and ensuring that every eligible citizen is enrolled remains a key objective of the party. He said the meeting reviewed the ongoing Special Intensive Review (SIR) of electoral rolls and discussed measures to strengthen coordination between the party organization and the government.

According to him, the Congress leadership has expressed satisfaction with the work of the party’s Booth Level Agents (BLAs) who have engaged in voter recruitment. Ms. Natarajan urged party functionaries to speed up the remaining registration process and ensure that no eligible voter is left out, he said.

Following the emphasis on voter registration, Mr Goud directed party leaders and the BLA to remain vigilant as the first phase of the SIR process is expected to end in the next two or three days. He urged party workers to monitor the exercise closely and ensure that every eligible citizen can exercise their right to vote.

Mr. Goud also asked the cadres to prepare for the second phase of the revision program by making full use of district and mandal officials and strengthening grassroots organizational mobilization.

The Coordinating Committee has also drawn up an action plan to improve public outreach on the social and development initiatives of the Congress government. Mr. Vikramarka said the party would use its organizational network to spread information about flagship plans and government programs at the village and household levels.

Preparations for the upcoming alumni MLC elections were discussed at length in the meeting. The party has decided to speed up the recruitment of graduate voters and ensure transparency in the selection of candidates. The district in-charge ministers have been instructed to consult district congress committee presidents, MLAs and senior party leaders before presenting panels of three potential candidates to the party high command for consideration.

The meeting resulted in clear guidelines for voter registration, grassroots outreach and election preparedness with an emphasis on closer coordination between the Congress organization and the Telangana government.
