Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) abolished its revised order in the breath analyzer to check the alcohol content in their bodies with respect to its alleged abuse by some people.
The company recently issued a review of its breath analyzer tests after TK Shibeesh, one of its Kozhikode drivers, who consumed homeopathic medicine after 20 minutes, tested positive to the alcohol content of March. New instructions were reported by the reports that the breath analyzer could bring positive results for people for certain medicines. Such employees could only be deployed to service if they tested negative in a repeated test.
In the new order issued on April 7, however, the Executive Director (Vigilance), KSRTC, said that some employees “abuse the provisions in the new order” and that it could “influence the reputation of the company”. In this context, the revised order would be withdrawn, the official added.
The KSRTC began performing breath analyzer tests for their employees on the basis of complaints that some reportedly reported to the service under the influence of alcohol. The company orders strict disciplinary measures, including the suspension of the service, against those who are found guilty. Mr. Shibeesh, a native of Malayamma in the district, was asked to undergo a detailed test before the medical council and the wing of Vigilance KSRTC at his headquarters in the state capital. However, his claims were found to be valid. The alcohol content is present in some Ayurvedic and homeopathic medicines. The doctors said it was not dangerous and recommended that patients had a breath analyzer test about an hour after consuming such medicines.
