Guntur police have arrested six people for “theft” of 91 sets of engine pumps

The Guntur District Police have arrested six persons who were allegedly involved in a series of motor pump thefts reported in Ponnur Rural, Ponnur Town, Chebrol, Tenali Rural and Tsundur police station limits. They recovered 85 stolen pumping sets worth ₹15.33 lakh and 18 kg of copper wire worth ₹20,000. The police also named the person who allegedly bought the stolen items in the case.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Vakul Jindal said at a press conference at the Guntur police station on Tuesday that the accused allegedly stole 91 motor pumps worth about Rs 15.47 lakh from roadsides and agricultural fields from June 3 to July 19, causing heavy losses to farmers. Acting on the complaints, the Ponnur Rural police registered cases under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and started an investigation.

The breakthrough came after investigators analyzed footage from CCTV cameras, ANPR Matrix cameras, CCTV360 app, CCTNS, call detail records and tower location data. The police tracked the Hyundai Creta rental car allegedly used in the offenses and identified the suspects. They were arrested near Brahmanakoduru village on July 27.

Police seized 85 pumping sets, 18 kg of copper wire, two cars and an autorickshaw allegedly used in the crimes. The charges are said to be linked to 13 cases of theft registered at various police stations across the district.

The investigation was under the supervision of Tenali SDPO B. Janardhan Rao and Ponnur Rural Circle Inspector P. Krishnaiah. The SP lauded Sub-Inspector V Srihari and the investigating officers and presented them with certificates of appreciation for cracking the case within a short span of time.
