CS asks district officials to remain on high alert during heavy rain warning

With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting heavy rainfall in Telangana over the next two to three days, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju on Tuesday directed district collectors to take all precautionary measures to ensure public safety and minimize disruption.

Mr. Jaju, chairing the teleconference from the secretariat of Dr. BR Ambedkar of Telangana with District Collectors, Commissioners of Police and Superintendents of Police, reviewed the prevailing weather situation, the contingency plan of the Agriculture Department and the progress of the Vanamahotsavam programme.

The chief secretary said only five or six districts have received normal rainfall so far, while 26 districts continue to face rainfall deficit. He said seed fairs are being organized across the state as part of the agriculture department’s contingency plan and assured that the government machinery is ready to provide all necessary support to farmers opting for alternative crops.

In view of the IMD’s latest forecast of widespread heavy rains in the next two days, Mr. Jaju directed officials in all districts to remain on high alert and work in close coordination with all concerned departments to respond immediately to any emergency.

He said National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have already been deployed in Bhadrachalam, Mulugu and Nirmal districts. Additional NDRF teams stationed at Hyderabad and other major centers would be deployed to the affected areas if required.

The teleconference was attended by Chief Secretary Ahmed Nadeem and Secretaries Dasari Harichandana and Surendra Mohan, among others.
