An audio recording of a conversation between Tamil Nadu’s Social Welfare Minister K. Jagadeshwari and a former TVK functionary, in which she allegedly threatens another TVK functionary, has gone viral on social media.

In the four-minute clip, Ms. Jagadeshwari is on the phone with now-suspended TVK official L. Rajaguru, reportedly days after TVK came to power in May this year. Mr. Rajaguru was earlier the Secretary of TVK North West Union. His suspension order was issued only on 21 July 2026 by the party’s central district secretary Virudhunagar P. Chinnappar.

In the clip, Ms. Jagadeshwari is heard asking Mr. Rajaguru if he had visited the taluk office in Rajapalayam in her absence. He denies doing this, but points out that Lakshmanan, another party functionary, used to visit various offices in Rajapalayam and distribute sweets (celebrating TVK’s victory).

After Mr. Rajaguru tells her that he does not speak to Mr. Lakshmanan, Mrs. Jagadeshwari says that she will file a police complaint against Mr. Lakshmanan and put him behind bars.

While Ms. Jagadeshwari could not be reached for comment, one of her party functionaries confirmed that the leaked clip was genuine.

The welfare minister was embroiled in another controversy in June when she complained to Virudhunagar NO Collector Sukhaputra that her name was printed under that of S. Keerthana, her cabinet colleague, claiming to be the “local minister” for the Virudhunagar area.
