Probe Lekhpal exam ‘missing’, recruitment reform: students rally in UP

Students and job aspirants from Uttar Pradesh staged a protest rally in Prayagraj on Monday seeking an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the recently held Lekhpal recruitment examination.

Rallying under the banner of ‘Pratiyogi Chhatra Hunkar Manch’, a platform for competitive recruitment exam aspirants, the protestors also demanded a lower cut-off for Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET), timely completion of pending recruitments, transparency in recruitment commissions including reform of Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC), regular dialogue and regular dialogue.

“The demand for comprehensive reforms in the screening and recruitment system will intensify across the country. Our demands include a fair investigation into the Lekhpal paper leak case, implementation of the principle of ‘minimum restriction, maximum opportunity’ by reducing PET restrictions,” the organization said in a release.

She also called for an impartial inquiry into the alleged excesses by law enforcement agencies against the participants of the July 20 ‘Chalo Sansad’ march in the state capital.

“We demand legal action against the culprits, protection of the democratic rights of students staging peaceful protests and accountability for examination irregularities and document leakage cases at the national level. The student movement is not against any individual but supports a transparent, fair and accountable examination and recruitment system,” Pratiyogi Chhatra Hunkar Manch said.
