Conway bats at 69 out of 49 balls and left the fold at 18. Through, replaced Ravindra Jadeja, CSK needed 49 runs out of 13 balls to chase 220-run target. The decision was tactical-no-related to the injuries-but CSK and lost by 18 runs.

This was the second case where the IPL was a player who retired, after using the same Indians’ movement in Mumbai with Tilak Varma against Super Giants Lucknow. So what exactly does a pensioner mean and how does it differ from a more common retirement term?

In the cricket, the dough that leaves the fields due to injury or illness is considered to be injured in retirement (also known as a pensioner – not outdoors). It is important that they can return later in shifts – if fit and if their team has not lost all their goals. Statistically, they are not considered and their shifts continue if they return.

On the other hand, a pensioner is a strategic decision. The dough voluntarily leaves the fields – not for injury – and cannot return to the bat again. It is basically a self-administered release that is used to bring a new dough that can better suit the situation of the match.
Although these tactical movements are rare, they now gain attention, add a new layer of T20 strategy and force fans and transmitters to reconsider the term “retirement”.
