Man arrested in Guntur for fake gun license and illegal possession of firearms

The Guntur District Police on Monday (July 27, 2026) arrested a 27-year-old man on charges of obtaining arms licenses using forged documents and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal said the Nagarampalem police conducted the operation under the supervision of West DSP Bellam Srinivasa Rao. The accused, identified as Myla Vijaya Harsha, was arrested by Circle Inspector Munipalli Rajesh and his team.

Police seized three firearms, including a .22-caliber rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun and a .380-caliber pistol. They also seized 50 rounds of live ammunition, including six rounds of 9mm and 44 rounds of .380, and seized a car allegedly linked to the offence.

The case was registered under Section 318 (4) and Section 336 (3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act and Section 25 (1) (a) of the Arms Act of 1959. The accused was remanded in judicial custody.

The police said that creating fake certificates and fraudulently obtaining arms licenses pose a serious threat to public safety and are severely punished under the law. They added that a comprehensive investigation is underway to identify a network involved in the preparation of false documents, the supply of arms and the facilitation of illegal licences.

The Guntur Police urged the public to avoid fraudulent methods of obtaining arms licenses and to report any information about illegal possession of arms or fake licenses and ensure that the identity of the informers is kept confidential.
