The Ministry of the Interior is streamlining the police association into two bodies

The state government has issued orders to restructure the membership and organizational structure of police associations within the Ministry of the Interior. The order, which effectively reduces the number of recognized police associations from three to two, led to the dissolution of the Kerala Police Officers Association (KPOA).

The reform stems from a formal proposal submitted by the state police chief, who cited operational and practical difficulties in the existing membership hierarchy. According to the newly issued guidelines, the framework will now be restructured into two main entities. The Kerala Police Association (KPA) has been reorganized to represent employees holding the ranks of Civil Police Officer (CPO), Senior Civil Police Officer (SCPO), Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI Grade), Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and Sub-Inspector (SI Grade).

Meanwhile, the Kerala Police Senior Officers Association (KPSOA) has been reorganized to represent officers from the rank of Sub-Inspector (SI) to Superintendent of Police (Non-IPS). With the dissolution of the KPOA, its legal rights, liabilities, office space, accounts and assets will be divided between the two remaining organizations. Under this agreement, 60% of KPOA’s bank accounts, assets, records and liabilities will be transferred to KPA and the balance will be transferred to KPOA.

In addition, the existing office of the KPOA State Committee will henceforth serve as the official headquarters of the State Committee for the KPSOA. In order to facilitate a smooth operational transition, the Chief of State Police will establish ad hoc committees at the state level, which will establish ad hoc committees at the district level. All unit, district and state level elections for both KPA and KPSOA will be completed by September 30.
