India’s Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (PTI Photo/Ravi Choudhary) Indian boxer Jadumani Singh Mandengbam advanced to the men’s 55kg quarter-finals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after defeating Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman by a 5-0 unanimous decision on Sunday. Kargil Vijay Diwas scored a convincing win, making the win even more special for the 22-year-old as he dedicated it to India’s Kargil War heroes.After the match, Jadumani said, “I dedicate my victory to the heroes of Kargil. I felt great when I won against Pakistan. I will perform even better in the quarter-finals and secure the gold for India.”His win coincided with the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, when India honored the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War in 1999. Jadumani maintained control throughout the contest against Rehman and earned the votes of all five judges to seal a comfortable win.The Manipuri boxer impressed already in the opening round with another 5-0 win over Scot Aaron Cullen. His latest victory takes him into the round of 16, where he will fight for a place in the semi-finals on Tuesday. A win in the quarter-finals will also guarantee him at least a bronze medal, as both the losing semi-finalists in Commonwealth Games boxing receive bronze.Jadumani, who won silver in the 50kg category at last year’s World Boxing Cup finals before moving up to the 55kg division, looked in excellent form with back-to-back unanimous wins. India also celebrated success in other events on Sunday, with Mirabai Chanu winning her third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold in weightlifting, while Chanambam Rishikanta Singh and Raja Muthupandi won silver medals to add to the country’s strong medal tally in Glasgow.
