
The University of Kerala has been given a full -fledged campaign to fight growing concerns about drug abuse in educational institutions.
The university vice -chairman (authorized) Mohanan Kunnummal recently convened a meeting of higher officials on drug activities in educational institutions.
During the meeting that discussed the recent incidents of drug abuse on campuses, prof. Kunnummal emphasized the need for universities across keral to become patterns for safety, health and social responsibility. He shared proposals from the Chancellor and the Chief Minister to strengthen his efforts to make campuses free from drugs.
“Zero tolerance” policy
The vice -chairman proposed a strict policy of “zero tolerance” with plans to implement a comprehensive action strategy on the anvil. Strategies include awareness programs focused on students and parents in cooperation with coercive agencies and medical experts, official sources said.
Regular educational campaigns will also be organized to emphasize the risk of drug use. In addition, drug posters across campuses will be displayed and students will have to sign an affidavit that confirms their obligation to remain without drugs.
The Vice -President also supported the growing involvement of parents through regular hostel visits and proposed to help student volunteers from organizations such as National Service and National Cadet Corps, together with coercive bodies. As part of the initiative, certificates will also be issued to campuses that provide its drug -free status.
For further promotion of drug -free environment, Vice -Chairman recommended the establishment of monitoring teams and increased monitoring through DRONA with AI support. He also proposed to integrate awareness of drug abuse into the curriculum and to perform online meetings to get parents more efficiently. The age of the university age will also be re -evaluated in the effort to reduce the likelihood of drug -related incidents. Strips of drug testing could be used to detect the presence of narcotics.
Kunnummal also suggested that universities regularly update their drug activities to the university registrar and show model procedures on the university’s website. The meeting was attended by over 220 participating parties, including the heads of departments, higher officials, directors of associated universities and hostel guardians.
