20 students hospitalized after food poisoning at Tribal Ashram School in Chintoor Agency

At least 20 students of the Government Tribal Welfare Ashram School in Somulaguda fell ill, allegedly due to food poisoning, after they were served the same dal for both lunch and dinner in Chintoor Agency of Polavaram district on Sunday (July 26, 2026).

“Dal meant for lunch was served to the students for both lunch and dinner, leading to health complications hours after consumption,” Integrated Tribal Development Agency Project Director Subham Nokwal told The Hindu.

“We have admitted 20 girls to the government hospital in Chintoor. They are recovering and responding to treatment,” said Mr. Subham Nokwal, adding that the superintendent of the ashram school has been suspended and an inquiry into the incident has been ordered. A medical camp is also held on the school premises.
