Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrated in Belagavi

Officers and personnel of the Maratha Light Infantry Center celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas in Belagavi on Sunday (July 26).
Brigadier Girish Upadhya, Commandant, MLIRC and other officers started the event by laying wreaths at the war memorial. They also paid tribute to the brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil war.
Wreaths were also laid by Sandeep Khot, Center Subedar Major and Agniveer Vivek Khedekar, symbolizing the enduring legacy of the regiment’s valor and seamless transmission of the spirit of service from one generation of soldiers to the next.
The ceremony recognized their unparalleled courage, unwavering dedication and selfless service that ensured India’s victory in one of the toughest high-altitude conflicts in military history.
The occasion also commemorated the significant contribution of the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment, whose gallant soldiers etched the regiment’s name in golden letters with their exemplary bravery during the Kargil conflict. The ceremony was attended by officers, JCOs, other ranks and Agniveers from the Regimental Centre, who paid tribute to the fallen heroes and reaffirmed their commitment to uphold the highest traditions of the Indian Army inspired by the courage, patriotism and supreme sacrifice of the Kargil warriors, a press release said.

In Davangere, MP Prabha Mallikarjun released the book ‘Kargil Yuddha: A Critical Turning Point’, a Kannada translation of an English work by retired Colonel MB Ravindranath of Holesirigere village. She said she bought copies of the book from her salary to celebrate. “The book will be distributed to the libraries of government schools and government colleges in Davangere Lok Sabha constituency. As the entire amount raised from the purchase of these books will go to the Soldiers’ Welfare Fund, it is a tribute to our brave soldiers. I am confident that through this book our students will understand the story of the Kargil victory, will be inspired to embrace the values of their sacrifices, national patriots and patriotism.” he said.
In Bagalkot, members of the district unit of the Karnataka All Ex-Servicemen Association celebrated the occasion. From the office of the association, they set off on bicycle rallies on various roads in the city. District President Gadigeppa Arakeri, Honorary President Arjun Kori, General Secretary Vegananda, Organizing Secretary Manjunath Chittaragi, Yamanappa Yalagannavar and others were present.
