Jadumani build on a strong opening win

Jadumani entered the pre-quarterfinals in confident form after putting in a one-sided performance against Cullen, while Rehman entered the competition fresh after receiving a bye in the preliminary round.

CJP Jantar Mantar protest update

The Indian boxer, who won silver in the 50kg division at last year’s World Boxing Cup finals in Noida before moving up to the 55kg category this season, once again displayed the speed and poise that have made him one of India’s top prospects. He also became the first member of the Indian boxing contingent to enter the ring at the Glasgow Games.

Closely contested opening before Jadumani takes control

The opening round proved to be the most balanced phase of the competition. Both fighters traded blows freely, Rehman making good use of his height and reach advantages, while Jadumani relied on quick footwork, crisp movement and quick combinations to score. The judges narrowly favored the Indian after the first round, but little separated the pair as they continued to exchange attacks.

The pace and intensity increased significantly during the second round.Jadumani gradually gained more control before creating one of the match’s defining moments by scoring a knockdown on Rehman, shifting the momentum firmly in his favour. He maintained that advantage until the closing stages of the fight, securing a unanimous verdict after three rounds, with all five judges awarding the contest.

A quarter-final match with England awaits them

The win sends Jadumani into the quarter-finals, where he will face England’s Ellis Trowbridge on Tuesday for a place in the medal rounds.Under Commonwealth Games boxing rules, both losing semi-finalists receive bronze medals, meaning victory over Trowbridge would put the Indian in the last four and secure a place on the podium.India has sent a 14-member boxing team of seven men and seven women to Glasgow with expectations of another strong medal haul.

Lovlina already guarantees India’s first boxing medal

India has already secured its first confirmed medal in boxing through Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain.Lovlina, who competes in the women’s 75kg division, went straight into the semi-finals, automatically guaranteeing at least a bronze medal as both losing semi-finalists earn a place on the podium under Commonwealth Games regulations. She is due to face Tuvalu’s Tarona Khanum Badi Pasoni Taafaki in the semi-finals on July 31 for a place in the gold medal match.

Sachin Siwach is also advancing

India’s boxing campaign picked up steam elsewhere in Glasgow.Sachin Siwach, one of the leading medal hopes in the men’s 60kg division, advanced from the round of 32 after defeating Canada’s Keom Al-Ahmadieh on a 4-1 split in a tight contest. The 26-year-old from Bhiwani, Haryana, will face England’s William Hewitt in the quarter-finals on Monday. With Jadumani safely through to the eight, Lovlina already assured of a medal and Siwach continuing his campaign, the Indian boxing contingent remains firmly in contention across the weight categories as competition continues in Glasgow.
