Inter-county vehicle lifting gang arrested; 10 arrested

Neradigonda police in Adilabad district busted an inter-district vehicle lifting gang by arresting 10 members and recovering seven motorcycles, three autorickshaws and a car worth around ₹17 crore.

Among the arrested persons, all from Nirmal, were alleged kingpins Yasar Ahmed (25) and Sohail (25), police said.

The gang was allegedly involved in a series of vehicle thefts in Hyderabad and the erstwhile Warangal and Karimnagar districts.

Five members of the gang allegedly threatened the police with a knife and fled after they were stopped at the Kupti check post during a vehicle check in Neradigonda mandal on Friday evening.

They were arrested the next day after police stepped up surveillance. Police arrested five more members of the gang following interrogation on Saturday night.

Adilabad SP Akhil Mahajan said on Sunday that they are trying to trace six more members of the gang who are on the run.
