The Monsoon Session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly will begin on August 13

The Monsoon Session of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly will now be held from August 13. An official announcement in this regard was made by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Sunday in Bengaluru.

Earlier, the government had planned to schedule the monsoon session on August 6. However, a delay in expanding the state cabinet led to the meeting being held earlier.

Now that there are clear indications that the cabinet expansion will take place on Wednesday or Thursday, the meeting has been called for August 13, sources said. They pointed out that the new ministers will need some time to familiarize themselves with their departments as they will have to answer questions concerning them in the legislature.

As this will be the first session of the legislature after the change in the chief minister’s post, the new office wants its ministers to be well prepared to address issues related to their portfolios during the session, sources said.

Meanwhile, BJP state president BY Vijayendra told reporters in Bengaluru that the BJP and JD(S) will jointly raise all major public issues during the upcoming legislative session and hold the Congress government accountable.

He said a meeting of BJP MLAs and MLCs would be called soon and discussions would also be held with opposition leaders to finalize the strategy for the session.

Issues like Bidadi Township Project, proposed airport at Kanakapura, prevailing drought situation and other matters affecting people would be comprehensively discussed in the legislature, he said.
