APSRTC staff to submit memorandum against private e-bus policy on July 27

Officials of the Andhra Pradesh Public Transport Department (APSRTC) Employees’ Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Sunday said thousands of APSRTC employees across the state will submit memoranda signed by employees as part of the statewide JAC protest to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu through the respective district collectors on Monday (July 27).

In a statement, JAC convenors Y. Srinivasa Rao and P. Damodara Rao urged the state government to withdraw its policy of running electric buses through private operators. Instead, they demanded that the electric buses be procured and operated exclusively by the state-owned APSRTC, with the services operated by APSRTC employees.

Employees said if the government is serious about strengthening the public transport system, it should focus on procuring new buses, filling vacant seats and improving passenger services, rather than adopting policies that they say would weaken the corporation. They reiterated that the employees will strongly oppose any move to privatize APSRTC.

JAC leaders said the state-wide employee signature campaign, conducted since July 20, has seen an overwhelming response from employees across all categories, reflecting their commitment to protect APSRTC as a public sector undertaking.

They said the government is expected to respond after receiving the memos. The APPTD State Staff JAC Committee (APSRTC) will review the government’s response at its meeting in Vijayawada on July 30 and announce its future course of action based on the outcome.
