Kerala’s Kollam District Development Committee urges speedy implementation of projects
Kollam District Development Committee (DDC) called for speedy implementation of various development projects by effective utilization of all available financial resources.
Presiding over the meeting, District Collector Annie Jula Thomas directed the officials to ensure that the ongoing initiatives are completed smoothly and on time.
Emphasizing the need for timely public works, it was announced that the District Panchayat would allocate funds for school repairs provided that the beneficiary schools submitted their detailed estimates of the works promptly.
Major decisions were also taken to strengthen the health infrastructure in the entire district. Steps will be taken to remove accumulated land from the premises of Kollam District Hospital, acquire additional land for Kadakkal Taluk Hospital and recruit temporary doctors at Karunagappally Taluk Hospital.
In addition, coordination between various departments will be strengthened to manage the continued expansion and operational efficiency of Parippally Government Medical College.
On transport and infrastructure, the authorities have been instructed to expedite land acquisition for the Kollam Greenfield National Highway project starting from Kadampattukonam.
The Geological Department has been directed to complete the verification related to the soil in time, while the Irrigation Department has been directed to maintain the dams of the Kallada Irrigation Project and inspect the dams.
To ease commuter woes, immediate measures have been demanded to clear traffic jams on the Mevaram-Kollam highway, address complaints regarding KSRTC night buses skipping service roads along the Kottiyam-Chathannur stretch and provide temporary passage for commuters during the construction of the Polayathode rail flyover.
While the new KSRTC bus service connecting Kottarakkara and Parippally Medical College will be launched soon, street dog shelter initiatives will be extended to all levels with local body support.
In the meeting, DDC was informed that 94 medical camps and 344 awareness sessions have been successfully conducted across the district to curb the spread of infectious diseases. The District Collector reiterated that all departments must maintain flawless execution and close coordination to deliver these projects to the public without delay.
