Chanambam Rishikanta Singh won silver (Image: X) India’s Chanambam Rishikanta Singh won the men’s 60kg weightlifting silver medal at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games on Saturday, handing the country its first silver medal and second overall on the Games podium. The 28-year-old from Manipur produced a memorable performance by rewriting the Commonwealth Games record books in the catch before finishing second in a fiercely contested final.

Rishikanta sets a new CWG snatch record

Rishikanta got off to a stunning start as he successfully lifted 121kg on his third and final attempt at the jerk, setting a new Commonwealth Games record in the event. The effort saw him briefly move to the top of the standings alongside Malaysia’s Mohamad Aniq Bin Kasdan, sparking an intense battle.

Rishikanta started off with a clean sweep by successfully lifting 143kg, but failed to improve his overall score after failing to clear 151kg in his final attempt. He finished the competition with a total of 264 kg (121 kg jerk and 143 kg throw), which was enough for him to win the silver medal.The miss leaves Malaysia’s Aniq Kasdan in the lead with a total of 266kg (121+145), while Rishikanta remains second with 264kg (121+143). The Kenyan Mboya moved to third place with 260 kg (115+145).
