Chamarajanagar: Lok Adalat settles over 1.60 lakh cases, recovers ₹29.60 crore

A total of 1,60,265 cases were settled in Chamarajanagar district during the second National Lok Adalat and the subsequent Special Lok Adalat, resulting in the recovery of ₹29.60 crore, Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) G. Prabhavathi said on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference, Ms. Prabhavathi said that the National Lok Adalat, organized on July 11 by the DLSA and the Taluk Legal Services Committees of Gundlupet, Kollegal and Yelandur, disposed of 1,60,232 cases, including 4,602 pending court cases and 1,55,630 pre-trial cases.

She said ₹12.65 crore was recovered through court cases and ₹16.24 crore through pre-litigation settlements, making the total recovery under the National Lok Adalat ₹28.89 crore.

A special Lok Adalat held on July 18 settled 33 check bounce cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act and recovered an additional ₹71.41 lakh. This took the total recovery to ₹ 29.60 crore from 1,60,265 cases.

Ms. Prabhavathi said several cases pending for 10 to 15 years were resolved during the Lok Adalat. Among the resolved matters were 13 family disputes, three spousal support cases and eight senior citizen cases.

She announced that the next National Lok Adalat will be held on September 12.

She said that the DLSA has been conducting extensive awareness programs to encourage people to opt for Lok Adalats, leading to a steady increase in the number of settlements every year.

Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary DLSA Eshwar was also present.
