Adani Airlines Plans: Why Center May Relax Airport and Airline Ownership Rules

Story so far: The Civil Aviation Ministry is examining whether to relax restrictions on cross-ownership between airport operators and airlines. Officials are preparing a concept note for consultation with the NITI Aayog and other government ministries before any proposal is submitted to the Union government.

The exercise comes amid media reports citing a letter from Adani Airport CEO Arun Bansal that the proposed changes are linked to the Adani Group’s reported interest in entering the aviation business. However, Adani Enterprises denied the reports.
