Strengthen area and night rule to repel anti-national elements and maintain a strong police presence, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat said on Friday (July 25, 2026).

DGP Prabhat, who chaired a security review meeting at the police headquarters in Kashmir “to assess the prevailing security scenario and other emerging challenges in the Union Territory” after the Anantnag terror attack, handed over fresh instructions to top officers in Kashmir.

A police spokesperson said that DGP Prabhat has directed officers to intensify area rule and night rule especially in vulnerable and urban areas to deter anti-national elements and maintain a strong police presence.

He called for strengthening the security network around critical infrastructure while strengthening intelligence gathering and coordination among all security and intelligence agencies.

After reviewing the counter-terrorism framework, the DGP instructed officers to intensify intelligence operations to identify, track and neutralize residual terror networks.

“Close coordination among all stakeholders is important to facilitate quick operational responses and effectively counter any attempt to disrupt public order or disrupt the security environment,” DGP Prabhat said.

Emphasizing the critical role of reliable communication in policing, the DGP emphasized the need to ensure uninterrupted telecommunication connectivity and resilient communication networks across all police formations.

The spokesperson said the DGP emphasized the need for “heightened situational awareness across all formations” while directing officers to maintain a round-the-clock vigil on weather-related preparedness.

The spokesman said the officers presented a comprehensive assessment of the prevailing security scenario in the Union Territory, including the current operational environment, threat perception and preparedness of field formations.

One policeman was killed in Anantnag two days ago in a terrorist attack. The policeman was shot at close range by an unknown terrorist.
