Millions of Muslims travel every year to Saudi Arabia on the Holy Pilgrimage Hajj and Umrah. A key part of this journey is the entry into the sacred state called Ihram. Many think that ihram only means wearing special clothes, but it’s much more.
According to Islam, Ihram is a state of complete purity, in the body and mind. Pilgrims must follow certain rules and rituals when they are in Ihram. Whether it’s hay or umrah, understanding and following ihram is essential for all. Spiritually prepares the pilgrim for the sacred journey forward.
Hajj 2025 clothes for men
During Hajj, Muslim men wear special clothes called ihram. It consists of two ordinary white fabrics. One part is wrapped around the waist (Izar) and the other over the shoulder (rida).
These simple dresses show cleanliness, humility and equality from the almighty and remove all signs of wealth or condition. Men wear open sandals that show ankles and upper foot.
They cannot wear underwear, socks or sewn clothes and their heads must remain uncovered.
Hajj 2025 clothes for women
Ihram does not need special clothing. They can wear any modest, loose clothing that covers the whole body except the face and hands.
Simple clothes such as long dresses, tunics with pants or abayas are fine. Emphasis should focus on modesty, not style. The shoes must cover the whole leg and women should carry scarves or scarves to cover their heads and shoulders.
It is also important to wear comfortable and strong shoes on the road. Clothing should be respectful and suitable for a spiritual journey.
Is umrah different from Hajj?
Umrah is a special Islamic pilgrimage to the holy city of Makkah (also speaking Mecca). Although it is less than Hajj for Muslims, it is very important.
Pilgrims visit Kaaba and perform sacred rituals to worship Allah. It helps to refresh faith, cleanse the soul and bring Allah closer.
Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, is performed at a certain time that ends with Eid-AL-ADha. However, umrah can be done throughout the year.
People pray honestly and ask for forgiveness during this journey. Umrah is Sunna, which means that the prophet Muhammad (Saw) encouraged it. In his life, he made a death four times and advised Muslims to do it at least once.
The clothing umrah is similar to Hajj, while the pilgrims wear Ihram. But umrah is shorter and easier than Hajj. During the pilgrimage, however, it is necessary to follow the rules of modesty and purity, as well as in Hajj.
