CWG 2026 medal table: Where do India stand after Jhandu Kumar’s bronze on Day 2?

India’s Jhandu Kumar (PTI Photo/Ravi Choudhary) India ended the second day of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with their first medal of the campaign as athletes put in encouraging performances in para powerlifting, swimming, boxing and bowls.The biggest highlight of the day was para powerlifting, where Jhandu Kumar clinched bronze in the men’s heavyweight category to open India’s medal tally. The Bihar lifter, who overcame paralysis and financial problems to reach the international stage, finished with 130.9 points after successful lifts of 181kg and 190kg. He narrowly missed the Commonwealth Games record with an unsuccessful attempt at 196kg. Fellow Indian Sudhir placed sixth. India came close to adding another medal in para powerlifting as Ashok Malik finished fourth in the men’s lightweight with 143.8 points to narrowly miss out on the podium. Paramjeet Kumar finished seventh.In para swimming, Karthik Budigina narrowly missed out on a medal after finishing fourth in the men’s S13 100m freestyle final in 57.57 seconds. Teammate Imam Ali placed seventh after both Indians advanced from heats earlier in the day.Indian boxing also got off to a positive start. Jadumani Singh advanced to the men’s 55kg pre-quarterfinals after defeating Scotland’s Aaron Cullen by unanimous decision. He will next face Pakistan’s Sumama Rehman for a place in the quarterfinals.In swimming, Srihari Nataraja missed out on a place in the 50m backstroke final after finishing seventh in his semi-final.India continued their impressive run on the turf. The women’s pair of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh registered their second straight win as they beat South Africa. In the men’s singles, Putul Sonowal backed up his upset of world champion Ryan Bester by defeating Falkland Islands’ Cecil Alexander in a thrilling tie-break.With one bronze medal, India ended the day joint ninth overall.
