Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Pemasani Chandra Sekhar on Friday said the Center is introducing sweeping reforms to transform India Post into a world-class public service institution through technology, effective leadership and a customer-centric approach.
Addressing a rally after inaugurating the modernized Kothapet and Chandramouli Nagar Sub Post Offices in Guntur, he said that India Post, with its presence in every village and household, will play a key role in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Dr. Chandra Sekhar described the reforms introduced in the last two years as unprecedented and said they surpassed the changes seen in the previous two to three decades, proving that public sector institutions can deliver world-class services with the right leadership and technology.
According to him, the priority remains to strengthen the financial position of the department, as higher revenues will support the well-being of employees, modernization and expansion of services. Annual growth in postal revenue has increased from around ₹200 crore earlier to over ₹2,100 crore in a single year after the reforms, he added.
Highlighting the digital transformation of the ministry, the minister said that nearly 80% of postal transactions in Andhra Pradesh are now done digitally, with India Post moving to fully cashless post offices. The IT 2.0 initiative would see savings and insurance services fully online, while Gen-Z post offices, dedicated mobile apps for employees and specialized training programs would further improve service delivery.
Dr. Chandra Sekhar said India Post has expanded its logistics partnerships with ONDC, GeM, Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho and Patanjali and plans to work with DHL to strengthen international parcel services. Features such as 24 to 48 hour package delivery, full tracking, SMS alerts, OTP based delivery and geo-tagging have been rolled out in phases.
He urged postal workers to promote savings, insurance and financial literacy at the household level and use the department’s extensive network to market products produced by farmers, women’s self-help groups and small entrepreneurs across the country and overseas. He reiterated that the Centre’s aim is to make India Post the most trusted, modern and people-centric public service.
