Ryots get only 12-hour power supply, claims Harish Rao

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) floor leader representative in the Assembly T. Harish Rao alleged that the Congress government has failed to ensure uninterrupted power supply, available irrigation water for the agriculture sector and drinking water for the people.

Along with party leaders of Alair constituency in Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri district, he made a surprise visit to Solepet substation in Bommalaramaram mandal, examined records (logbook) of power supply to agriculture sector.

Mr. Rao quoted a substation operator as telling him that farmers were earlier given 14 to 15 hours of power supply, but new guidelines from the government have limited power supply to agriculture to only 12 hours a day.

He claimed that even within 12 hours the power supply was frequently interrupted due to repeated switching off. Mr. Harish Rao questioned Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka’s recent statement that there was no power cut in the state. “If there is no power cut, why do official records at Solepet substation show only 12 hours of agricultural supply?” he asked.

He claimed that the government’s failure to maintain adequate coal reserves resulted in two units of a combined capacity of 1600 MW at Yadadri Thermal Power Station and another 270 MW unit at Bhadradri Thermal Power Station being shut down for a long time. Despite Telangana having access to coal from Singareni, he wanted to know why the 1,870 MW thermal power plant remained idle.

Recalling how Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had earlier said that farmers needed only three hours of power, Mr. Rao questioned whether the government was now trying to implement the CM’s word.
