Threat to CM Vijay: Vilathikulam DMK MLA’s bail plea rejected

A court here on Wednesday rejected the bail plea of ​​Vilathikulam MLA GV Markandayana, who was arrested for his alleged derogatory and threatening remarks against Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay at a public rally held at Kovilpatti in the district recently.

Judicial Magistrate – I, Sumathi also rejected the police’s remand for questioning of Mr. Markandeyan, who was lodged in the Palayamkottai Central Jail after he was remanded in judicial custody on Monday.

When his bail plea came up for hearing on Wednesday, the prosecution argued that the bail plea should be rejected as the accused had seriously threatened the chief minister.

After applying for bail, the petitioner’s counsel said there was no need to grant police custody for questioning Mr. Markandeyan, who was interrogated for nearly 11 hours after he was picked up on Monday morning.

When Ms. Sumathi rejected both the petitions, Mr. Markandayan, who was produced before the court here, was taken back to the Palayamkottai Central Jail.

Addressing a public meeting in Kovilpatti last Saturday (July 18), Mr. Markandayan allegedly threatened Mr. Vijay. Registering a case against Mr. Markandayan, the District Crime Branch police said the DMK MLA had threatened to break the chief minister’s bones at a public meeting, leading to his arrest and subsequent judicial custody till August 3.
