High drama unfolded at Hyderabad’s Exhibition Grounds Road, home to both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana office and the Congress party’s Gandhi Bhavan, as workers of the two parties clashed on Wednesday (July 22, 2026) amid protests over recent political developments in New Delhi.

Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao and several party workers were taken into preventive custody by the police while proceeding towards Gandhi Bhavan to stage a protest against Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha ‘dharna’ Rahul Gandhi near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi on Tuesday.

Confrontation between supporters of two parties

Mr. Ramchander Rao and the detained BJP workers were later shifted to Goshamahal Police Station. Shortly thereafter, tensions escalated when a group of alleged Congress activists tried to enter the BJP State office premises. BJP workers resisted the move, sparking a confrontation between supporters of both parties.

The situation soon turned violent and there were reports of stone pelting from both sides. A cameraman of a TV channel and several party workers sustained injuries and were taken to a nearby private hospital for treatment. The police immediately intervened and brought the situation under control.

Addressing the media later, Mr. Ramchander Rao accused the Congress of setting a “dangerous precedent” by staging a protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence. He claimed that the party was trying to create “unrest and instability” similar to situations witnessed in some neighboring countries.

Real students absent from agitation: Telangana BJP chief

“The actions of the Congress are deeply condemnable. Every patriotic Indian is pained by the attempts to create an atmosphere of anarchy in the country,” he said. He further claimed that the ongoing protests under the banner of the “Cockroach Party” were “hijacked by anti-national elements”. Claiming that actual students were absent from the agitation, he alleged that “anti-social and ultra-leftist groups” were participating.

Launching a scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi, the BJP leader alleged that the Congress was indulging in “divisive politics” and was trying to “incite unrest” among the youth. He, however, maintained that the country’s youth remained committed to national interests and did not fall prey to such efforts.

The BJP would continue to oppose what it described as “Tukde-Tukde politics” of the Congress party and would not be deterred by arrests or police action.

Meanwhile, several BJP leaders, including Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Legislature Party Leader A. Maheshwar Reddy, MPs DK Arun and Eatala Rajender, condemned the detention of Mr. Ramchander Rao and the developments in Delhi. They asserted that the NDA government is ready to discuss the NEET issue in Parliament and appealed to the Congress to cooperate to ensure smooth running of the ongoing parliamentary session.
