Nando de Freitas, Microsoft AI vice -president, publicly criticized Google Deepmind over its employees and claimed that employees from the company often seek advice on how to escape restrictive announcements and unconvention.
In the paper on X, de Freitas, Deepmind congratulated his recent model progress, but emphasized what he described as a worrying culture in the workplace. He claimed that Deepmind employees regularly approach him in “despair” to ask for help in circumvention of contractual restrictions and even ask for job opportunities on Microsoft AI.
He also claimed that some employees were informed that the search for external job offers is the way to internal promotion.
“Please don’t move me. They’d rather stretch together,” Deepmind’s De Freitas said, and instead ordered them to engage in their leadership. Specifically, Deepmind’s Koray Kavukcuoglu and Douglas Eck said, saying that both had previously expressed the opposition to these work practices.
De Freitas strongly recommended against the signing of restrictive contracts and claims that no US corporation should have such an impact on employees, especially in Europe. These Terms and Conditions were characterized as “abuse of power”.
His remarks caused a new control of employment policy in the technology industry, especially in leading research companies AI, where the provisions of non -competing and extended announcements of mobility and innovation restrictions were criticized. Deepmind must still respond publicly to the accusation.
