Congress begins Lok Bhavan march in Thiruvananthapuram

As protests against police action during the Delhi Congress sit-in gained momentum across the state, the Congress marched to the Lok Bhavan in the state capital on Tuesday evening.

The march, which started from the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) headquarters, was led by KPCC president and Electricity Minister Sunny Joseph.

Excise Minister M. Liju, Women and Child Development Minister Bindhu Krishna, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Development Minister KA Thulasi, Sports Minister OJ Janeesh, MLAs M. Vincent and Chandy Oommen, former KPCC President MM Hassan, Congress leaders VS Sivakumar and Neyyattinkara State Student Neyyattinkara State President Neyyattinkara State Student Xavier and dozens of Congress workers also participated in the march carrying flags and shouted slogans.

Congress leaders said this was just the beginning of the agitation against police action in Delhi. They expressed support for Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and KC Venugopal, who were detained in the state capital.

The march was blocked by the police using barricades at Vellayambalam. The protesters tried to climb the barricade and get to the other side. They also tried to tear down the barricades.

The police’s attempt to arrest some of the protesters led to heated exchanges. The protesters shouted slogans against the police and in support of the Youth Congress. Senior Congress leaders were seen trying to pacify the protesters.
