Congress surprised its own MPs, Center with a protest at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg | The report explains how | Today’s news

The Congress top leadership surprised not only the government and the police but also several of its MPs when it staged a sit-in at one of the gates of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence.

For top party leaders to stage a protest in such a heavily guarded area, it was important to maintain secrecy as otherwise the area could be cordoned off, said a party leader briefed on the development.

The MLAs were told that they had to reach party president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence – 10 Rajaji Marg – to wish him on his birthday.

Therefore, many MPs were oblivious to what was coming and reached Kharge’s residence. They were then asked to follow Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra when suddenly the top leaders moved to Gate 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, which is about 500 meters from Kharge’s house.

The other party leaders had no idea about the development and reached the spot as soon as word got out.

Only top officials were aware of the move and reached Kharge’s residence after both houses of Parliament were adjourned. However, most representatives had no idea about the plan.

Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra staged a sit-in at one of the gates of 7, Lok Kalyan Marg. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi along with Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav were forcibly removed by the police as they demanded Modi’s resignation.

The surprise action of top Congress leaders in the high-security zone has left the government in a tizzy, prompting it to rush PMO Secretary of State Jitendra Singh and Union Home Minister Govind Mohan to convince opposition leaders to vacate the sensitive post.

Gandhi’s discussion with the minister lasted for several minutes, after which Singh and the home minister left as the talks remained inconclusive.

Soon after Singh left, the police forcibly removed and detained Gandhi and other leaders in the evening.

As police descended on the spot, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha was seen lying on the ground resisting as security personnel tried to pick him up. He was injured in the process.

“Democracy in India is happening right now,” Gandhi said as police tried to forcibly remove him from the scene.
