5,289 cyber awareness programs were conducted across Gujarat
The Gujarat Police organized 5,289 cyber security awareness programs across the state in the first two weeks of its 28-day special Operation Surakshit Cyberspace campaign to ensure safe use of online platforms by women and children.
The campaign focuses on preventing cybercrime through community engagement, technology-based surveillance, victim outreach, cyber awareness and swift legal action.
Additional Director General of Police (CID Crime Women Cell) Ajay Chaudhary said ensuring the online safety of women and children is a priority in the digital era. “Through Operation Surakshit Cyberspace, Gujarat Police is creating a safer digital environment by raising awareness about cyber threats like deepfakes and sextortion. Gujarat Police remains fully committed to the safety and security of every citizen,” he said.
According to the police, 1,874 awareness and awareness programs were organized in the first week, followed by 3,415 special sessions on online threats such as sextortion, deepfakes and cyberstalking in the second week. The programs reached thousands of citizens across the state.
In the first week, the campaign included 185 launch events on digital and physical security, 438 Cyber Security Day programs in schools and 336 awareness activities as part of Kishori Diwas for adolescent girls. The police also conducted 318 programs for parents, 281 training sessions for teachers, 207 awareness programs in colleges and organized 109 rallies on cyber security across districts.
In the second week, Gujarat Police organized 4,172 themed programs and camps for public awareness. These included 743 programs on social media safety, 578 awareness sessions on deep fraud, 514 cyberstalking prevention programs and 520 Anti-Sex Day events.
The police also conducted 512 gaming safety programmes, 466 preventive online grooming sessions and 461 public awareness camps in remote areas.
As part of the campaign, police officers in the field, from police constables and head constables to assistant sub-inspectors, sub-inspectors of police and inspectors of police, have been assigned tasks. Their performance is assessed according to five parameters: awareness, prevention, enforcement, quality of investigation and public trust.
They urged citizens to immediately report cybercrime or online harassment by calling the National Cyber Helpline at 1930 and registering a complaint.
