Nellore Children’s Park will have zip line, bike path, says Minister

Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) Minister Ponguru Narayana said modern play equipment and adventure activities, including a sky drive, zip line and cycle track, will be installed within three months at the Nellore Children’s Park while reviewing the master plan prepared for the park’s upgradation on Monday.

“A children’s park was earlier set up at the landfill site and now it will be developed on the lines of Rajahmundry Park under the aegis of AP Greening and Beautification Corporation (APG&BC). However, the maintenance of the park would be handed over to the corporation itself,” he said, warning that strict action would be taken against any encroachment on the parks.

The Minister further announced that all parks in the city will be gradually modernized to meet the needs of the public.

The roof collapses

Meanwhile, later that evening, the roof slab of a 60-year-old house on Yanamalavari Street (49th Division) in the city suddenly collapsed. Firefighters intervened quickly and rescued three people trapped under the debris.

Mr. Narayana rushed to the spot and inspected the collapsed roof of the house in which eight families lived. He spoke to victims, officials and locals to gather details of the incident, supervised rescue operations and issued instructions to officials. He immediately approved TIDCO houses for eight affected families and assured them of support.

Students congratulated

Later, the Minister felicitated the meritorious students of Class X and Intermediate at the ‘Shining Stars Awards-2026’ function organized by the Education Department. Addressing the students, he recalled how he started his journey as a part-time lecturer with a monthly salary of ₹120 and now reached the stage of building institutions that provide education to millions of students across the country.

In another program at the VR High School campus, Mr. Narayana’s elder daughter, Sindhura Narayana, announced the distribution of 10,000 bicycles, entirely funded by the Narayana Group at a cost of ₹ 6 crore, to students of 23 government schools within the city. She said that in the first phase, 7,000 bikes will be distributed to students within a week.
