Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Monday inspected the Chetpet Bio-CNG plant, which is being run on a public-private partnership (PPP) model on behalf of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).

According to a government press release, Mr. Vijay ordered that the 6,150 tonnes of waste generated daily in Chennai should be segregated into biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste.

He ordered that biodegradable waste be converted into biogas and fertilizer, while plastic and other non-biodegradable waste should be used for road construction and as fuel for cement plants. In addition, Mr. Vijay directed that this initiative be implemented in Tamil Nadu within the stipulated time frame.
