A tourist from Karnataka suffered serious injuries after falling nearly 40 feet while riding a zipline at the Dandeli resort after the ride’s safety lock reportedly failed mid-air, NDTV reported.
The victim, identified as Kuber Surpur of Vijayapura, was participating in an adventure activity when the incident occurred. According to his family, the safety lock gave way while he was suspended in the air, causing him to fall to the ground. A video of the accident has since gone viral on social media, rekindling concerns about safety standards at adventure tourism destinations.
As reported by NDTV, Surpur suffered multiple fractures to his arms and legs along with nerve damage. He was first taken to Dandeli Government Hospital and then shifted to Vijayapur Hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later sent to a medical facility in Miraj for specialized treatment.
The family accuses negligence, demands responsibility
Surpur’s family accused the resort management of negligence, claiming that the zipline equipment looked rusty and was not properly maintained. They claimed that the accident could have been avoided if routine maintenance and mandatory safety checks had been carried out before driving.
According to NDTV, the family demanded accountability from the department, saying that stricter adherence to security protocols could have prevented the incident.

The incident sparked widespread online debate, with many social media users calling for stricter regulation of adventure sports facilities and stricter equipment checks.
Several users questioned the zipline’s safety design, arguing that riders should remain securely attached even if the locking mechanism fails. According to NDTV, the department’s management and local authorities had not publicly responded to the family’s allegations at the time of publication of the report.
