Russia-Ukraine War: 1 Dead, 16 Wounded, Major Nighttime Ballistic Missile Attack in Moscow Hits Kyiv | Today’s news
Russia launched one of its biggest ballistic missile attacks on the Ukrainian capital Kiev overnight, killing at least one person and injuring 16 others, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday.
The attack triggered a series of heavy explosions across the city, with the Ukrainian Air Force saying 41 missiles of various types were used in the attack, Reuters reported. Several areas were damaged, fires broke out in several places.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said residential buildings, warehouses, a supermarket and a dormitory were among the affected places, adding that three injured people were in a serious condition.
Four people were killed and 19 others wounded in a separate attack on a postal warehouse near the northeastern city of Kharkiv near the Russian border on Sunday, the regional governor said.

At the scene in western Kyiv, rescuers searched through burning debris and worked to extinguish fires in damaged residential buildings.
Near the city center, the strikes damaged a subway station that had been repeatedly targeted in previous attacks and destroyed a nearby underground pedestrian passage, leaving debris scattered across the area.

Russian forces also hit a rehabilitation center in the neighboring Sumy region, Acting Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said. The Ministry of the Interior announced that one person was killed in a controlled bombing in the regional capital.
“Kyiv is booming”
The resident, who identified himself as Vlad, told Reuters he was inside his apartment when the blast tore off his balcony door and hit him in the head.
“My grandmother lives with me and can’t walk. How could I run away and leave her here?” he mentioned.

Fruit vendors returned to their makeshift stands as usual while an excavator cleared the rubble into a nearby dump truck, reflecting the city’s efforts to recover despite the damage.
“Kyiv will flourish,” said 68-year-old Iryna Lomeyko, expressing confidence in the resilience of the neighborhood that has repeatedly come under Russian attack.
She mentioned, “Those idiots will destroy everything, but we will fix it and build again. Everything will be fine.”
Ukraine’s military said it intercepted 18 missiles during Sunday’s attack, which was aimed primarily at Kiev. It also announced the downing of 108 of the 125 drones launched in the attack.
Later on Sunday, cleanup work continued around the damaged Kyiv metro station and collapsed underground passage as workers removed debris while residents walked through the area with little visible reaction.
“Protection against ballistic missiles is our top priority”: Zelensky
Last week, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine and the United States had reached a political agreement on licenses to produce Patriot anti-missile missiles, and expressed hope that production could begin by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, as Russia steps up its attacks in the fifth year of total war, Ukraine is increasing pressure on its international partners to speed up the delivery of anti-ballistic defense systems.
“Protection against ballistic missiles is now our constant and top priority,” Zelenskyy said on Sunday X. “Interceptors are needed every day.”
