The owner of a Thane-based dosa restaurant has gone viral after revealing how his business finances have changed over the years, saying that while his establishment once generated monthly revenue ₹12-13 lakh, now he manages to save only around ₹1 million per month after covering expenses.

Owner Benne Rush shared details about his business during an interview with content creator Utkarsh Verma in a video where he talked about the cost of running the restaurant, seasonal demand and the business.

During the interview, the owner said the restaurant enjoyed strong business soon after opening, with monthly sales reaching ₹12-13 thousand as customer demand grew.

However, he said sales have slowed over time due to a drop in customer numbers.

When asked about his current earnings, the owner said that now he only saves around ₹1 lakh every month after paying all business expenses.

The owner attributed the drop in revenue to seasonal changes, saying the restaurant experiences lower customer turnout in the summer, which impacts sales.

According to him, business improves in the winter months because more customers visit the outlet.

Despite the drop in profits, he said he still prefers being an entrepreneur to working for someone else.

When asked what advice he would give to people who want to quit their jobs and start a business, he said, “Definitely, ek baar aapke mein mein si mehal aayega ki haan, mainly stop karke ye karun. But you should definitely go for it. Always go for your dream. Even if you fail once, a day or two will come, but in the end it will.”

A viral post sparks a debate about revenue and profit

The clip quickly gained attention online, with many social media users debating the difference between revenue and profit.

One user wrote: “Really awesome, creates jobs too.”

Another commented: “If it’s a profit, it’s awesome, if the revenue is still awesome, it’s putting people to work.”

A third user said, “Even though 12 lacs is a monthly income, still the overheads remain at 4-5 lacs (staff, rent, electricity, etc.), only the raw material costs would exceed. Still, he would have a profit of 4-5 lacs per month from the 12 lacs sales. Not bad at all.”
