A 16-year-old boy allegedly killed his minor live-in girlfriend by opening fire on her and buried her body to cover up the crime in Kodihalli area of Bengaluru South district.

The incident took place on July 10 at the boy’s house in Kempalanatha village near Kodihalli. The girl, who was also 16, was from another village.

According to police, the boy allegedly found the girl texting with another boy on social media on July 10 and reprimanded her. The defendant allegedly fought and assaulted her over the matter. Then he brought out an old country firearm and opened fire on the girl.

A case investigator told The Hindu that the boy then informed his brother and his uncle, who helped him bury the girl’s body and allegedly tried to cover up the murder.

“The boy’s uncle shared the incident with one of his friends, who talked about it with a few other people, which led to rumours. The girl’s parents also heard the rumours, and then filed a missing complaint, after which we interrogated the boy and found that the girl had been murdered,” said a police officer.

The officer said the body is yet to be exhumed, after which it will be sent for post-mortem. Police seized a country firearm allegedly used in the crime. The firearm is believed to have belonged to the boy’s grandfather and has been allegedly held illegally by the family ever since.

According to police, the boy became friends with the girl on social media about two months ago and she lived with him for about a month.

“The girl interrupted her studies. She told her parents that she was living with her boyfriend, and the family didn’t ask her either,” said the police officer.

The boy’s family is said to have known that the girl was living with him, but did not question it. Police have so far recorded the statements of both families, but have found several gaps. The investigation will continue to determine whether the case involved the negligence of more than one person.

The Kodihalli police registered a case of murder and arrested the minor boy, his brother and uncle.
