Fifty alleged Maoists – of which 14 carried a cumulative reward of 68 lakh – on Sunday (March 30, 22025), surrendered before the security forces in the Chhattisgarh district in Bijapur, the police said.
Police General (Bastar scope) P. Sundarraj said it was the highest number in large number of surrender, and added that 26 Maoists also gave up on Bijapur on the occasion of the last month. Bijapor is one of the seven districts in the Bastar region and is the worst affected Naxal conflict.
The main minister Vishnu deo Sai has attributed the recently announced policy of surrender-cum-rehabilitation for surrender.
“The main Minister of Shri Vishnu deo Sai congratulated security forces to surrender 50 naxalities at the same time in the Bijapur district. He said that the positive results of the new surrender policy and rehabilitation – 2025 of the CHhattisgarh government are now clearly visible.”
Help to encourage surrender
The proposal of policy binds several financial incentives, such as 50,000 GBP as initial financial assistance. If the submitted persons undergo or set up small businesses, they will receive additional financial support in addition to providing free housing and health care, he notes.
Mr. Sundarraj said that the amount of financial assistance depends on the relative position and the position of submitting the individual in the Maoist ranks. Among the 50 who have surrendered in the last case, most of them are not armed cadres, he said. They include those who live in internal villages that provide support to underground Maoists. He said that surrender is also the result of operations and opening camps in dense areas affected by the Maoists.
In particular, 118 Maoists were shot by security forces in the Bastar area, most of them in Bijapur, in the first three months of this year.
Mr. Sai said that people were imprisoned in the vicious circle of Naxalism are now leaving the weapon and returning to the mainstream of society, this change is welcome. “Our government is ready to revive every person who leaves red terror and chooses the way of peace,” he said.
In particular, 18 Maoists were killed by the security forces in Chhattisgarh on Thursday 17 in the skirt and one in Bijapur.
