Heatwave-like conditions persist in Central AP with light to moderate showers occurring in a few areas

Although hot, humid and heatwave-like conditions prevailed over central parts of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday 16 July, light to moderate showers prevailed at isolated stations in Krishna, Palnadu and Bapatla districts.
The India Meteorological Department, Amaravati, has issued an orange alert for West Godavari, Krishna, Bapatla, Prakasam and Palnadu districts as heatwave is likely in these places on Thursday, while yellow alerts have been issued for the entire state except Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Parvathipuram Manyam. Parts of the state may experience hot and humid weather on Friday as well.
Meanwhile, a depression is also well visible over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha-West Bengal coast and is very likely to move northwest over north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal during the next two days.
Under its influence, cloudy skies may appear in some parts of the state and there may also be light to moderate rain on Friday. Isolated places in the districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Dr. BRAmbedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru and Anantapur may receive light showers.
According to IMD’s weekly forecast, several places in north and south coastal AP may witness light showers along with thundershowers, strong winds and lightning till July 19. Precipitation activity in these two regions between July 20 and July 23 will not be heavy, but strong winds may continue. Not much rain for Rayalaseema in a whole week.
Bhavadevarapalla in Krishna district received maximum rainfall of 49.25 mm between 8.30 am and 6 pm on Thursday, followed by Nagayalanka in Krishna district with 44 mm, Savalyapuram in Palnadu with 25.19 mm, Kuchinapudi in Bapatla district with 23.5 mm and An23.5 mm in Virupapuram district. At the other stations, it rained below 20 mm.
