Fear of Yamal lamina injury? The Spanish star is training alone ahead of the World Cup final against Argentina

Spain faced a brief injury scare ahead of the 2026 World Cup finals after Lamine Yamal trained outside the main group during training in New Jersey on Thursday. However, the Spanish FA were quick to allay concerns, insisting the teenage star is expected to be fit for Sunday’s sensational game against Argentina.

Yamal and defender Pedro Porro underwent individual recovery exercises during Spain’s first training session after a 2-0 semi-final victory over France. While pictures of the pair working separately quickly sparked speculation online, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) said there was no cause for concern.

Speaking to Reuters, the federation clarified that both players were following a preventive workload management program and are expected to be available as Spain bid for just their second World Cup title.

The individual part came after a physically demanding semi-final for Yamal, who spent much of the evening battling French full-backs Lucas Digne and Theo Hernandez. Although Spain coach Luis de la Fuente insisted after the game that the Barcelona youngster had “nothing”, the teenager was left with the usual aches and bruises that come with another intense 90-minute performance.

SPAIN PLAYS INJURY FEAR

Spain have made it clear ahead of the tournament’s biggest game that they are leaving nothing to chance.

The RFEF expects both Yamal and Porro to return to full training ahead of Sunday’s final, with Thursday’s stand-alone session part of the team’s recovery plan rather than indicating any fresh injury concerns.

Porro’s case appears to be a little more delicate after De la Fuente admitted after the win in France that the Tottenham defender had a knock. Reuters understands the full-back is dealing with a minor strain of paralysis, although the problem is not believed to be serious enough to threaten his place in the finals.

Yamal’s situation appears to be even less worrisome. The teenager has been one of Spain’s standout players throughout the tournament and the coaching staff are simply looking to ensure he arrives at the final fully refreshed after another spirited display in the semi-finals.

THE COUNTDOWN TO ARGENTINA BEGINS

The rest of the Spanish training session was uneventful, with the team looking relaxed despite the wet conditions and temperatures reaching 30 degrees Celsius in New Jersey.

Luis de la Fuente’s side now have three days to complete their preparations before taking on defending champions Argentina led by Lionel Messi in one of the most anticipated World Cup finals in recent memory.

Spain are aiming to lift the World Cup for only the second time since their triumph in 2010, while Argentina are chasing back-to-back titles. With this being the biggest prize in international football, Spain’s priority in the coming days will be to ensure that every player, especially Yamal and Porro, is fully fit when they show up at the New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.
